Amy grew up in St John’s, Newfoundland. Jon is from the opposite coast, British Columbia. They met during their training at the Canadian Coast Guard College, in Sydney, Nova Scotia, where they quickly became best friends. Then it suddenly became more.
You might remember Amy and Jon from their recent engagement session. Among other locations, we returned to Quidi Vidi and Bowring Park for some photos on their wedding day, and it looked entirely different than it did 6 weeks ago! Everything was white with our record snowfalls in December. In fact, so we could take our photos at the same place we did the engagement session, the groomsmen went down to the Quidi Vidi Plantation the night before the wedding, and shoveled out the wharf! (Could you ask for better friends?!)
Amy and Jon chose to ring in 2014 as newlyweds, deciding on New Years Eve as their wedding date. Everything cooperated perfectly, the sun was shining, and it was the warmest day of the month (which wasn’t warm, but it was something!).
Jon’s family came from as far away as BC and Alberta to be present for their special day. All anyone said about the newlyweds is how close they are, how supportive of one another they are, and how even now, years later, they are still best friends. The couple exchanged evening vows, and handwritten words, in a room where tears were flowing.
The celebrations continued well past the countdown, the strike of midnight, and into 2014.
Here’s only some of what we captured on a beautiful, clear New Years Eve.
